Turn your PC on and when it says 'Starting Windows' press F8 and from the menu select 'Command Prompt Only' and
your PC Will be in MS-DOS Mode. At the Prompt Type DATE and press return. |

Today's date will be shown and you will be prompted to type a new date.. Type 31'st December 1999. This will be
commonly DD/MM/YY or in America MM/DD/YY. Meaning DAY/MONTH/YEAR |

Now type time and and press return. Type in 23:59:30 to show 30 seconds before midnight and press return. Switch
off your PC and wait 30 seconds for the clock to tick by into the year 2000 |

Restart your PC in Dos again and type DATE. If the date is 1/1/2000 your PC has passed the test and will be fully
operational come the big day. type in today's date and type time again and type in the right time. |

If the date says anything other than 1/1/2000 (Possibly 4/1/1980) your PC will need help. Most likely you'll just
have to type in the correct date in 2000. To test this change the incorrect date to 1/1/2000 then switch off your
PC |

Restart your PC, again in DOS, and type Date. If the date says 1/1/2000 your PC WILL work as long as you set the
date correctly when you boot up on January 1st 2000. Type date and type in the correct date and Restart your PC
and proceed to windows! with the knowledge your PC will be fine when you boot up in the next Millennium! |

If your still reading this then the news is bad. Make sure you have completed the steps above correctly. If you
have then Contact your PC's Manufacturer to see if there is a BIOS upgrade available. If not then the best solution
is to get a new Motherboard which will include a new BIOS set. This will take an experienced engineer a couple
of hours to fit and could prove costly so maybe it would be better to buy a new PC instead as in effect, you would
be changing your computers Nervous system, everything plugs into it! |
